What should you check about the balcony before you sign up?
A balcony can differ a lot from one home to the next, even within the same property. Three things decide how much you will actually get out of it:
Orientation: A balcony facing south or west gets sun in the afternoon and evening, while a balcony facing north mostly gives you air and a view. The floor plan or the description of the home often shows the direction.
Type and size: A French balcony is a door with a railing in front of it and has no room for a table. A proper balcony or a roof terrace does. Ask for the measurements if they are not stated in the listing.
House rules: Many properties have rules about barbecues, balcony planters and drying clothes on the balcony. Read the house rules (husorden) when you are offered the home, so you know what the balcony may be used for.

New build or older property: where do you find the balconies?
